Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki meet in the semifinals of the 2016 US Open.

Angelique Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Roberta Vinci that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Kerber won 61 percent of her first serve points and 29 percent of her second serve points. Kerber was able to win despite racking up 25 unforced errors and getting almost nothing out of her second serve. She knows she has to play better in order to compete for another grand slam title. Still, Kerber has won 12 of her last 14 sets and has her eyes on becoming to new No. 1 ranked player in the world. Kerber hopes to make her third career grand slam final, all taking place this season. Kerber has won 14 of her last 16 matches on hard court.

Angelique Kerber vs. Caroline Wozniacki 2016 US Open Semifinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a straight sets win over Anastasija Sevastova that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Wozniacki won 70 percent of her first serve points and 75 percent of her second serve points. Wozniacki has now won 10 straight sets and is looking more and more like the top-10 player she was a couple of years ago. Wozniacki is most comfortable in this tournament because she’s able to sleep in her own bed in Manhattan, and that comfortability is translating to the court. This success may be what was needed to get Wozniacki back on track. Wozniacki hopes to make her third career grand slam final, all of which would take place at the US Open. Wozniacki has won six of her last eight matches on hard court.

These two have met 12 times in the past and Kerber has won seven of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Beijing Open, a match Kerber won in straight sets. Kerber has beaten Wozniacki in four of the last six meetings and her last loss was in Tokyo in 2015.

It’s clear Wozniacki is comfortable in this tournament and a letdown likely isn’t going to happen. She’s for real, well, at least for now. Kerber has been a rock all season and we’ve made a lot of money backing her during the process. However, Wozniacki leads Kerber 5-4 on hard court and has the tennis IQ and court coverage to give the German issues. Based on what we’ve seen, Wozniacki has the ability to pull off the upset here.

I’m going with Sunshine to win this match.
