Agnieszka Radwanska and Garbine Muguruza meet in the second match of the tennis 2016 WTA Championships.
Agnieszka Radwanska is coming off a three set loss to Svetlana Kuznetsova that took 31 games to decide. In the losing effort, Radwanska won 57 percent of her first serve points and 50 percent of her second serve points. Radwanska knows she has to be better with her service game, and she blew chances to win a match against somebody who has dominated her throughout her career. Still, Radwanska has won 17 of her last 19 sets and continues to be sharp with her returns and on the defensive end. Radwanska has to like her chances to bounce back, especially considering she’s made it out of the round robin stages in three of her last four appearances at the WTA Tour Championships. Radwanska has won 10 of her last 13 matches on hard court.

Garbine Muguruza is coming off a three set loss to Karolina Pliskova that took 33 games to decide. In the losing effort, Muguruza won 61 percent of her first serve points and 48 percent of her second serve points. Muguruza looked like she was making progress in breaking her mental barriers after winning the second set and taking a lead in the third set. However, once Pliskova pushed back, Muguruza folded like a beach chair and got back to the poor body language and sloppy play. Muguruza has had a rough journey the last couple of months and has been desperate to break out of her slump. The first match in the WTA Finals for Muguruza certainly didn't help matters. Muguruza has lost four of her last six matches on hard court.
These two have met seven times in the past and Muguruza has won four of those meetings. The most recent match was in 2015 WTA Championships, a match Radwanska won in three sets. Four of the last five matches between Radwanska and Muguruza were decided in three sets.
After seeing Muguruza choke in her last match, it’s clear she’s still not ready to turn the corner. You just can’t trust her in her current form. So, with that being said, I like Radwanska to get the job done here and probably win in straight sets. Muguruza continues to struggle with her mental game and remains unbackable.
