The Line: Frankie Gavin +1000 / Kell Brook -1500 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Frankie Gavin and Kell Brook fight Saturday at the O2 Arena for the IBF welterweight title.
Frankie Gavin enters this fight with a 22-1 record that includes 13 knockouts. Gavin has won three fights in a row since his loss to Leonard Bundu, and that includes a victory over Bogdan Mitic earlier this year. Gavin is the first ever English boxer to become World Amateur champion and enters this fight rather confident despite being a big underdog. Gavin does a good job of moving around the ring and uses his length to his advantage. Gavin is very good defensively and will make his opponent work to win each round. Gavin’s weakness for this fight would be that he doesn’t have much experience against a fighter of Brook’s class. This will be Gavin’s eighth fight in London and his second fight in the O2 Arena.
USA TODAY Sports
Kell Brook enters this fight with a 34-0 record that includes 23 knockouts. Brook is coming off a March victory over Jo Jo Dan, and four of his last six fights have ended in a knockout. Seven of Brook’s last 10 fights have failed to go the distance. Brook is an athletic fighter with great speed and a nasty uppercut. Brook is very aggressive and won’t waste time when he has a chance to end a fight. Brook’s weakness is that he does leave holes defensively for his opponent to counter, as his hands are often too low. This will be Brook’s fourth fight in London and his second in the O2 Arena.
There’s a lot more respect for Brook after his victory last year against Shawn Porter. Brook is one of the more skilled fighters and should be a candidate to fight Floyd Mayweather if he handles business here. Gavin should not be taken lightly, but he’s simply not as skilled as Brook and hasn’t faced a fighter this skilled.
The line is what it is for a reason.
Brook will win this fight.
