The Line: Shawn Porter -121 / Adrien Broner +101 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Shawn Porter and Adrien Broner fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.
Shawn Porter enters this fight with a 25-1-1 record that includes 16 knockouts. Porter has won five of his last six fights, which includes a March victory over Erick Bone. Porter is an extreme power and compact puncher who puts pressure on his opponent with his aggressiveness. While he’s improved patience, Porter still has knockout power, as his last two victories have ended that way. Porter has also shown he has a strong chin and has great stamina to go the distance if needed. The concern with Porter is that he tries to do a little too much in this fight and open himself up to counters. Porter can be too pretty at times and go for the kill instead of focus on winning rounds as they come. This will be Porter’s second time fighting in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Adrien Broner enters this fight with a 30-1 record that includes 22 knockouts. Broner has won three straight fights, which includes a victory over John Molina, Jr. in March. Broner has terrific hand speed and is one of the better athletes in all of boxing. While he hasn’t knocked someone out in two years, Broner still packs power with his punches. Also, Broner is a showman, who can really put a fight away when the crowd gets going and he gets his swagger and confidence at a high level. The concern with Broner is that he’s back to being an unfocused fighter and takes rounds off at times. Broner also struggles to adjust on the fly and has had stamina issues in the past. This will be Broner’s fifth career fight in Las Vegas.
This line is interesting, as it’s not often we get Broner as an underdog. Porter is probably the better and more polished boxer, but I see the value being on Broner, which is why I’m taking him to come out on top.
Broner has shown he can survive aggressive fighters, as he hung in there against Marcos Maidana. This fight is also on national TV, which is sure to bring the best out of Broner, as he always performs under the bright lights. Give me the plus money.
