Nonito Donaire and Cesar Juarez fight Friday night at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum for the WBO Super bantamweight title.
Nonito Donaire enters this fight with a 35-3 record that includes 23 knockouts. Donaire has won four of his last five fights and is coming off a July win over Anthony Settoul. The Filipino Flash had terrific hand speed and power that helped make him a star before suffering two losses since 2013. Donaire does a nice job of exploiting weaknesses and provides instant offense that allows him to win rounds rather easily when he’s in his zone. The problem is that Donaire hasn’t exactly shown that consistency as of late and has really taken a backseat in the sport. A lack of motivation and age (33) are concerns with Donaire, but he did say that he’s excited and has never trained this hard for a fight in his life. This will be Donaire’s second career fight in Puerto Rico.

Cesar Juarez enters this fight with a 17-3 record that includes 13 knockouts. Juarez has won his last four fights and is coming off a July win over Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. Juarez has had a great amateur run and should be confident with four straight victories. However, this is a huge step up in class for Juarez, a fighter who hasn’t exactly put together a resume with many notable names. This will be easily be the biggest fight ever for the 24-year-old Juarez. Overall, Juarez is a tough fighter who isn’t afraid to trade punches and actually packs some decent power behind his punches. Still, we’re going to learn a lot more about Juarez when he steps in the ring here. This will be Juarez’s first fight in Puerto Rico and only second fight outside of Mexico.
Even if Donaire isn’t the same guy he was a few years ago, he’s still far more experienced and simply more talented than Juarez at this point in their careers. Give credit to Juarez for putting together a nice streak and getting this fight, but this is a mismatch and could be a rather quick fight once again.
Donaire will win his third straight bout.
