Amir Khan and Canelo Alvarez fight Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena for the WBC, The Ring and lineal middleweight titles.
Amir Khan enters this fight with a 31-3 record that includes 19 knockouts. Khan has won his last five fights and is coming off a May win over Chris Algieri. Khan is known for his hand speed and footwork, which tends to makeup for his lack of devastating power. Khan isn’t the most powerful boxer, but his quick hands and straight punches allow him to dictate the fight and keep his opponent on his toes. Khan should also be a confident fighter, as he’s put those back-to-back losses behind him in a big way with recent wins over solid boxers. The concern with Khan is his chin, as two of his his three losses have come by knockout. Khan has holes in his defense and fighters with above-average timing can catch him where it hurts. This will be Khan’s sixth fight in Las Vegas.

Canelo Alvarez enters this fight with a 46-1-1 record that includes 32 knockouts. Alvarez has won his last four fights and is coming off a November win over Miguel Cotto. Alvarez is one of the smarter boxers in the sport and does a great job of adjusting to his opponent. Once Alvarez has his the fight figured out, he throws powerful punches that have resulted in six of his last 10 bouts ending in knockout. Alvarez has looked sharp since his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and could be on a collision course to fight Gennady Golovkin. The concern with Alvarez has been his stamina, as he does tend to wear down over the course of a fight and can give late rounds away due to a lack of aggressiveness. This will be Alvarez’s eighth fight in Las Vegas.
Khan has the experience and is smart enough to possibly pull off the upset here, but it’s no secret Alvarez is the better boxer and has proven himself in a shorter amount of time against better fighters. Alvarez also has the power to expose Khan’s defensive flaws, which could end the fight if he isn’t careful.
Should be a great fight and bring in a lot of money, but Alvarez will get the victory and hopefully take another step forward to fighting GGG.
