Artur Beterbiev and Ezequiel Maderna fight late Saturday night at the Centre Bell on ESPN.
Artur Beterbiev enters this fight with a 9-0 record that includes nine knockouts. This will be Beterbiev’s third fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a June win over Alexander Johnson. Beterbiev is a great technical fighter who understands distance and range, & he uses that to his advantage. Beterbiev is a big fighter who probably should be in the heavyweight division, and he does a nice job of mixing in combinations with his power. Only one of Beterbiev’s nine fights have made it past the fourth round. The only concern with Beterbiev at this point is his lack of overall competition, as Tavoris Cloud is probably his best opponent at this point. This will be Beterbiev’s ninth fight in Canada.
USA TODAY Sports
Ezequiel Maderna enters this fight with a 23-2 record that includes 15 knockouts. Maderna has won four of his last five fights and is coming off a May win over Rolando Wenceslao Mansilla. Maderna has really bounced back nicely from his controversial loss to Thomas Oosthuizen, as he’s won his last three bouts. Maderna is a physical fighter who doesn’t mind trading punches, and he has some pretty good pop with two of his last three wins coming by knockout. Maderna also has a proven chin with both of his losses coming by decision, and he was able to stand in the ring with Edwin Rodriguez. Maderna also has a massive experience advantage with 126 rounds under his belt. This will be Maderna’s first fight in Canada.
Maderna is getting no respect at all with this line considering he has the experience and is certainly no slouch in his own right. However, Beterbiev is considered one of the better heavyweights in the game right now and will matchup well with Maderna, who doesn’t have a ton of movement. This will simply be a physical fight that will allow Beterbiev to land a lot of big punches.
I like Beterbiev to remain unbeaten and move that much closer to getting a big fight.
