Dejan Zlaticanin and Franklin Mamani fight Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino for the WBC Interim Lightweight title.
Dejan Zlaticanin enters this fight with a 21-0 record that includes 14 knockouts. This will be Zlaticanin’s second fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a June win over Ivan Redkach. Zlaticanin is now starting to get more attention in the United States, and he really proved himself with a victory over Ricky Burns as a +550 underdog. Zlaticanin is a very polished fighter with quick hands, and he throws crisp punches while mixing in combinations. Zlaticanin also has clear knockout power with five of his last 10 bouts ending in stoppage. Zlaticanin looks impressive on film and while he doesn’t have the best resume in the world, it’s time to put him on notice given his last few fights. This will be Zlaticanin’s second fight in the United States.
USA TODAY Sports
Franklin Mamani enters this fight with a 21-2-1 record that includes 12 knockouts. Mamani has won his last 10 fights and is coming off a February win over Diego Miguel Ramirez. Mamani is taking this fight on short notice after Emiliano Marsili backed out due to a sickness. Mamani hasn’t lost a fight since 2012 but both of his losses have taken place in his only two trips outside of his home country of Bolivia. Mamani doesn’t have a great resume overall, and his best bout would probably be a 2013 win over DeMarcus Corley. While there’s not a lot of film out there on him, Mamani seems like a decent defensive fighter who throws strong compact punches. This will be Mamani’s first fight in the United States.
Mamani hasn’t fought anybody good enough to make us think he can hang with a powerhouse in Zlaticanin. There’s even less hope when you consider he’s taking this fight on short notice. This could be the first time Mamani gets knocked out.
Zlaticanin will win this fight rather easily.
