Ruslan Provodnikov and John Molina Jr. fight Saturday at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino.
Ruslan Provodnikov enters this fight with a 25-4 record that includes 18 knockouts. Provodnikov has split his last six fights and is coming off a November win over Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez. Provodnikov has kind of hit a rough patch recently with three of his four career losses coming in his last six bouts. However, you know what you’re getting with Provodnikov, arguably the toughest pound for pound fighter in the sport. Provodnikov has never been knocked out and brings a ton of heart into the ring every time. Provodnikov has decent hand speed, does a nice job of mixing up combinations and four of his last five victories have been by knockout. This will be Provodnikov’s third fight in New York.
USA TODAY Sports
John Molina Jr. enters this fight with a 28-6 record that includes 23 knockouts. Molina has split his last 10 fights and is coming off a November win over Jorge Romero. Molina also enters this bout in shaky form with losses in three of his last four fights, but he is coming off a knockout win over a decent fighter in Romero. Molina is another guy who has a lot of toughness and can take a punch, as he’s survived bouts with Adrien Broner and Humberto Soto recently. Molina has a strong right hand and has won his last four fights by knockout. Molina’s will and great stamina allows him to often steal rounds later in the bout. The concern with Molina are his defensive issues, as he has a bad habit of dropping his hands and can be very sloppy overall at times. This will be Molina’s first fight in New York.
Molina’s sloppy fighting style and poor defensive habits have caught up to him ever since taking on bigger names. That’s not going to change here against a polished and possibly the toughest fighter in Provodnikov. There’s a reason this line is so massive in favoring Provodnikov to get the victory. Molina is kind of outmatched here.
Look for Provodnikov to win this fight probably by knockout.
