DeMarcus Corley and Michael Gardener fight Wednesday at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium.
DeMarcus Corley enters this fight with a 45-27-1 record that includes 27 knockouts. Corley has split his last 12 fights and is coming off a May win over Revlon Lake. Corley is 42 years old and is going to be fighting for the fifth time this year. Corley has clearly lost a step or two in his athleticism and speed, but he still has power in his hands and has produced knockouts in three of his last five victories. Chop Chop just can’t leave the sport alone and has recently expressed interest in a possible rematch with Zab Judah. It’s truly remarkable how a guy this age can continue to take on this many fights in such a short amount of time. This will be Corley’s third fight in Jamaica.

Michael Gardener enters this fight with a 2-0 record that includes one knockout. This will be Gardener’s third fight this year, and he’s coming off a May win over Ramel Lewis. Gardener made his professional debut in April of this year and beat up on two no-name fighters with a combined record of 13-19-1. There’s absolutely no information out on Gardener other than the fact he has seven rounds under his belt, is 22 years old and goes by the nickname Wasp. Based on the massive experience advantage, you have to be concerned for Gardener and his ability to even hang in this fight, and that’s without seeing any available film on the kid. This will be Gardener’s third fight in Jamaica.
There’s no video or anything available on Gardener, but the experience edge alone is enough to give Corley the victory. Guys don’t turn pro in two months and then all of a sudden beat former champions and fighters who have been in the ring with greats. The only thing working for Gardener is that he’s by far the younger fighter and should have the quickness advantage.
Still, Corley should school the inexperienced fighter in this bout.
