Erickson Lubin and Daniel Sandoval square off late Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion.
Erickson Lubin enters this fight with a 14-0 record that includes 10 knockouts. This will be Lubin’s seventh fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a January win over Jose De Jesus Macias. Lubin is one of the top prospects in the country at just 20 years old and is clearly on his way to a title shot if he can continue this impressive run of victories. Lubin is an impressive athlete with a reach of 76 inches and does a fine job of moving around in the ring. His constant movement makes him tough to hit, and Lubin’s quick hands lead to effective combinations. The Hammer has all of the tools to be a superstar in due time and winning this bout just gets him that much closer to the goal. This will be Lubin’s second fight in Chicago.
USA TODAY Sports
Daniel Sandoval enters this fight with a 38-3 record that includes 35 knockouts. Sandoval has won 10 of his last 11 fights and is coming off a April win over Eduardo Santos. Sandoval has a ton of fights under his belt for someone who is just 25 years old, but this will be just his third fight since 2015. Sandoval is a big fighter at 6’1” and has a reach of 77 and a half inches, so he’s able to take advantage of reach and angles against smaller fighters. Sandoval has a habit of lunging his body into his punches, as he tries to get the most out of his power. Of course, Sandoval is a knockout artist and has won his last three bouts by the stoppage. This will be Sandoval’s first fight in Chicago.
Sandoval’s power and overall experience are the only two things that should concern Lubin entering this fight. Other than that, Lubin is by far the better boxer and should be able to school the 25-year-old Mexican once he figures him out. Lubin is the complete package and on the fast track to becoming a household name in this sport.
I look for Lubin to remain undefeated after this fight.
