Joseph Parker and Solomon Haumono fight Saturday at the Horncastle Arena for the WBO Oriental heavyweight title.
Joseph Parker enters this fight with a 19-0 record that includes 16 knockouts. This will be Parker’s eighth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a May win over Carlos Takam. Parker will be fighting for the third time this year, as he continues to cruise through his competition and will defend his belt for the ninth time. Parker continues to prove he’s the real deal in the heavyweight division at just 24 years old, and he’s coming of his most impressive victory by giving Takam just his third loss. Parker is a massive boxer at 6’4” and with a reach of 76 inches, and he clearly has knockout power in both hands. Parker has won seven of his last eight fights by knockout. Parker has fought much of his career in New Zealand, his birthplace.

Solomon Haumono enters this fight with a 24-2-2 record that includes 21 knockouts. Haumono has won six of his last seven fights and is coming off a April win over Manuel Alberto Pucheta. Haumono has won his last four fights and is proving he’s still a threat despite turning 41 years old in a couple of months. Haumono is a smaller fighter at 6’2” and with a reach of 74 inches, but he lands compact punches and seven of his last eight victories have come by knockout. Haumono also has a solid chin, as he’s survived bouts with Marcelo Luiz Nascimento and Franklin Egobi. Haumono has fought almost his whole career in New Zealand, his birthplace.
Haumono is right when he says all it takes is one punch for him to pull off the upset. However, Parker is much younger, quicker and has the overwhelming power to counter Haumono who has already been knocked out in one of his two losses. Parker is the more polished boxer at this point and the bigger fighter with the longer reach.
Parker remains undefeated when this bout is finished.
