Errol Spence and Leonard Bundu fight Sunday night at the Barclays Center on NBC.
Errol Spence enters this fight with a 20-0 record that includes 17 knockouts. This will be Spence’s sixth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a April win over Chris Algieri. Spence is easily coming off the biggest win of his career and is inching closer to a shot for Kell Brook's IBF welterweight title. Spence is considered The Truth for a reason, as he has all the tools to be a special boxer at just 26 years old. Spence has a crisp offensive attack where he throws effective punches while putting his IQ to good use. Spence is also solid defensively and rarely puts himself in danger of getting countered. Spence is a rising star in boxing and will be tough to beat regardless. This will be Spence’s third fight in New York, his birthplace.
USA TODAY Sports
Leonard Bundu enters this fight with a 33-1-2 record and that includes 12 knockouts. Bundu has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a April win over Jussi Koivula. Bundu has bounced back with back-to-back wins since his 2014 loss to Keith Thurman. Bundu now hopes he can school another young fighter with him quickly approaching 42 years old and having 236 rounds under his belt. Despite his increasing age, Bundu is a pressure boxer who throws a lot of punches that are quick and come from a variety of angles. Bundu is no pushover, but his weaknesses are quite clear; he doesn’t have much power and he can be countered quite easily due to his aggressive attack. This will be Bundu’s first fight in New York.
You have to respect Bundu’s experience and his resume overall, as he’s still the European welterweight champion. However, Spence proved to the world against Algieri that he’s as good as advertised and deserves more respect from the boxing community and casual fans.
Spence will win this fight rather easily and it will probably come by knockout.
