Derry Mathews enters this fight with a 38-10-2 record that includes 20 knockouts. Mathews has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a March loss to Terry Flanagan. Mathews has been rather consistent as of late with his only two recent losses coming against respectable boxers in Stephen Ormond and Flanagan. Mathews is an accomplished boxer with nearly 300 rounds under his belt and has that punching power that’s produced knockouts in eight of his last 12 victories. Mathews can also be confident knowing he hasn’t lost back-to-back fights since 2009. Of course, the concern with Mathews is that he has an extremely weak chin and has been knocked out in seven of his 10 losses. Mathews has fought his whole career in the United Kingdom, his birthplace.
There’s nothing that Mathews can do with Campbell at this stage of his career and it’s really that simple. Campbell can box circles around Mathews and has the power to take advantage of that weak chin. It's highly likely that Mathews is going to be knocked out for the eighth time in his career. This is a cool matchup between two respectable fighters who have accomplished a lot in their careers, but Campbell should have no trouble winning this bout and keeping his belt.
Campbell wins his third fight in a row.
