The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

TV: Showtime

Christina Hammer and Tori Nelson fight Friday at the Masonic Temple for the World Boxing Council World Female Middleweight Title.

Christina Hammer enters this fight with a 22-0 record that includes 10 knockouts. This will be Hammer’s third fight since 2017, and she’s coming off a November win over Gifty Amanua Ankrah. Hammer has put herself in the conversation as one of the top female boxers in the world the last few years and is certainly one of the faces of German boxing, men or women. Hammer has been a world champion for the last eight years and will defend her belt for a fourth straight fight. Hammer is a 27-year-old German who stands at 5’11” and has an orthodox stance. Hammer is a solid defensive fighter who controls the ring well and does a whole lot of clinching. It may not be the prettiest style of fighting, but Hammer simply has perfected it and knows how to win rounds with ease. Hammer has some pop in her punches, but she’s not super aggressive and only three of her last nine victories have come by stoppage. This will be Hammer’s first career fight in the United States.

Christina Hammer vs. Tori Nelson Boxing Preview, Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/22/18

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Tori Nelson enters this fight with a 17-1-3 record that includes two knockouts. This will be Nelson has won five of her last six fights, and she’s coming off a January loss to Claressa Shields. Nelson tried to slay the giant in her last fight, looking for the biggest win of her career, but she was on the losing side of every round. The good news is Nelson showed her toughness and was able to survive 10 rounds with one of the best in the world. Nelson is a 41-year-old from Virginia who stands at 5’6” and has an orthodox stance. Nelson has a brawler feel to her, as she can be a bit wild at times, but she works her jab well and usually is the one dictating the pace. Nelson can land some shots harder than her knockout percentage would suggest, and she’s a tough fighter who hasn’t been dropped in her career and is more than willing to engage in a back-and-forth style. Nelson took a beating in her fight with Shields, but she remained confident and continued to fight. It’s going to take a lot to stop Nelson, as she has a very strong chin. This will be Nelson’s first career fight in Detroit.

This is going to be a tough fight to call, as Hammer is the patient, defensive fighter who fights smart and sticks to her fundamentals. Nelson is a hard headed brawler who is willing to scrap each round and can take a beating while still coming forward. If Nelson forces the issue offensively, this thing could get interesting, taking Hammer out of her comfort zone. However, Hammer is clearly the younger, more athletic and better pure boxer. As long as she doesn’t get rattled early, she should win this fight.

Give me the German to remain unbeaten.
