The Line: Boston College Eagles -19 See the Latest Odds
The Villanova Wildcats visit Boston College to take on the Eagles in the first week of the 2013 college football season.
The Boston College Eagles finished the 2012 season with a miserable 2-10 record. The Eagles offense returns six starters from last season, including senior QB Chase Rettig. Rettig will play behind an offensive line that only returns junior C Andy Gallik and junior OT Seth Betancourt. Rettig will be extremely happy to have senior WR Alex Amidon back from last season as well. Amidon was second in the ACC in receptions and yardage, along with being ranked fifth in touchdowns, which earned him first-team All-ACC honors. Senior RB Andre Williams has shared carries in each of his first three seasons, but should be the unquestioned featured back this fall. The Boston College defense returns 7 starters from last season. Senior LB Steele Divitto and senior LB Kevin Pierre-Louis are the unquestioned leaders of the defense heading into this season. CB Al Louis has been plagued with injuries the past few seasons along with DT Kaleb Ramsey. Louis-Jean is a third-year sophomore that has all-ACC potential if healthy, with good speed while playing physical in the secondary. Ramsey is a six-year senior who has the potential of reaching the NFL if he can stay healthy too. Boston College may not have the talent overall to have a great season, but they will definitely have the edge over Villanova in the season opener.

The Villanova Wildcats finished the season with an 8-4 record, which was good enough for 2nd in the Colonial Athletic, eventually losing to Stony Brook in the FCS playoffs. Villanova actually went 14-1 in 2009 on their way to winning the FCS National Championship. The Wildcats played one FBS team last year, who just happened to be Steve Addazio and the Temple Owls. Temple destroyed Villanova 41-10. Villanova is a young team that is bringing back the majority of their starters from last year including sophomore QB John Robertson, who threw for 1,965 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. Villanova returns 16 starters from last season’s playoff squad and was picked as the preseason favorite to finish atop the CAA standings. Robertson will be joined by junior RB Kevin Mognani, who rushed for 1,210 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. Also returning on offense is senior WR Joe Price, who had 30 grabs for 616 yards and 3 touchdowns last season. The strength of the defense appears to be the defensive line. Senior NT Antoine Lewis and senior DE Rakim Cox are two of the top lineman in the CAA. The Wildcats secondary is led by senior CB Craig James, who will start at corner for the third straight season. The Wildcats should have success overall this season but they will be faced with a difficult task of beating an FBS school in week one.
This game should be dominated by Boston College, even though they are not a great team. Boston College should have a big advatange up front allowing them to run the ball effectively and create pressure on Robertson defensively. If the Eagles can establish themselves up front early and often, this game should be a joke. Boston College wins big, and that may be the only time I say that this year.
