The Michigan Wolverines begin their 2013 campaign by hosting their in-state rival the Central Michigan Chippewas.
The Michigan Wolverines do have some question marks this season, but in all the Wolverines are one of my favorites to win the Big Ten this season. The Wolverines have one of the best quarterbacks in the conference in Devin Gardner. Gardner is a mobile quarterback, but is a much better passer than Robinson was and should be able to run the Brady Hoke offense very effectively. Defensively the Wolverines allowed just over 19 points per game last season, and I see no reason why this years defensive squad can’t be better than last season’s.

The Central Michigan Chippewas finished their 2012 season with a record of 7-6, ending their season with a win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the Little Caesars Bowl. The Chippewas have named Junior Cody Kater the starter this season. Kater is strong from the pocket, and while he won’t be confused with RG III any time soon, Kater is mobile and should be able to provide some plays with his feet as well. The Chippewas had the nation’s 96th ranked scoring defense last season, giving up more than 32 points per game, a stat that the Chippewas need to try and improve upon if Central Michigan would like to go bowling again.
The Chippewas have struggled as an underdog lately, going just 3-13 ATS in their last three seasons when the underdog. The Chippewas are also just 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 road games. The Wolverines are an impressive 14-0 overall at home in their last 14 games, and in that stretch the Wolverines are 9-5 against the number.
This is a huge number, and early on I usually prefer taking the points as there is no preseason in college football and teams are sure to be a bit rusty. This one however looks to be about right. I’ll take the points here with the Chippewas, but honestly this one is a no play for me as there just doesn’t seem to be a ton of value with either side.
