The Wake Forest Demon Deacons travel to Boston College to face the Eagles on Friday night.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated the Presbyterian Blue Hose 31-7 on Thursday night to open the season on a winning note. However, this is nothing to write home about if you’re a Demon Deacon, considering Presbyterian plays in the Big South conference. With their ACC opener coming next Friday night at Boston College, Wake Forest mostly kept things simple on offense while its defense forced three fumbles and picked off three passes. Brandon Chubb returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown and redshirt freshman Josh Wilhite took his first career carry 21 yards for a late score. QB Price complete 14 of 25 passes for 219 yards and accounted for two touchdowns. Redshirt freshman WR Williams had 5 catches for 143 yards receiving, while RB Armstrong rushed 6 times for 38 yards. Moving forward, Wake Forest has 14 seniors playing significant roles this year, which should also help develop the young players coming up through the ranks. The Demon Deacons have a chance of reaching a bowl game this season if they can establish the run on offense and create pressure up front on defense. If not, it will be another long season for the Demon Deacons.

The Boston College Eagles won their season opener 24-14 over Villanova on Saturday. Boston College trailed 14-7 to Villanova, who ranks in the top 10 in the FCS, but the Eagles scored the next 17 points in route to the victory. WR Alex Amidon caught 13 balls for 146 yards and a touchdown, while RB Andre Williams ran for 114 yards on 23 carries. QB Chase Rettig complete 23 of 20 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, who won its first game under new coach Steve Addazio. The Boston College defense did not play great, but they got the job done. Villanova was able to rush for 158 yards and total 355 yards overall on the game. The 4 turnovers forced by the Eagles defense proved to be the difference in the game. The Eagles defense will need to step it up as they play a conference game this week against Wake Forest.
This game should be a close low scoring battle that is decided in the final few minutes of the game. Both teams have capable quarterbacks, but I would give Boston College’s Rettig the upper hand. I also think Boston College’s defense is better than the Demon Deacons. Boston College also has home field advantage so I’m going to side with the Eagles in this one.
