The Duke Blue Devils play the Memphis Tigers on Saturday.
The Memphis Tigers will be playing their first game of the season against Duke on Saturday. The Tigers return key players on the offensive side of the ball but will count on their solid defense to carry the weight this year. Memphis returns QB Jacob Karam who threw for over 1,800 yards last year. WR Keiwone Malone will be Karam’s main target, after several other receivers left Memphis after the 2012 season. RB Brandon Hayes will be a solid runner out of the backfield for the Tigers this season. Memphis had good defense last year, finishing ranked 50th nationally in total defense. The defense returns both linebackers and leading tacklers in Charles Harris and Anthony Brown. The defensive line returns three starters and should be the strength of the defense. The secondary will be led by S Reggis Ball, who had some great moments in his freshman year. Memphis will improve offensively this year, but their defense will have to play well if this team is going to have success.

The Duke Blue Devils won their season opener against NC Central on Saturday. The Blue Devils produced 488 yards of total offense, 231 passing and 257 rushing. QB Boone completed 16 of 20 passes for 176 yards, while RB Duncan carried the ball 11 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. WR Crowder had 6 receptions for 62 yards, while WR Braxton had 4 catches for 43 yards. The Duke Defense played great, limiting NC Central to 184 yards of total offense and only 81 yards rushing. Duke was able to get off the field on 3rd down and forced two turnovers in the win. This was a great game for Duke to gain a little confidence and work in some of their young players. Duke will be favored in another game this weekend and should be able to improve to 2-0 if they can win on the road. The Blue Devils will play against a tougher defense, but won’t face a strong offense.
Duke and Memphis will battle it out on Saturday and this game should be relatively close down to last minute. Duke has the advantage on offense, as Boone and Crowder make for a great combo thru the air. Memphis has a solid defense, but may not have much success on offense to start the year, considering they have several new inexperienced players. I think Duke is the better overall team and will win this game by 10.
