The Georgia Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks face off between the hedges in Athens on Saturday in a gigantic SEC battle.
The Georgia Bulldogs walked into a hornet’s nest last Saturday Night against Clemson and while the Dawgs fought the good fight they just didn’t have enough to get the win in a battle of top 10 ranked teams. QB Aaron Murray played well throwing for 323 yards and an interception but he didn’t have a touchdown pass. Todd Gurley was sensational rushing for 154 yards and two touchdowns despite leaving the first half early with an injury. Michael Bennett was Murray’s most popular target with five catches while Justin Scott-Wesley ad four catches and Chris Conley had three. Overall the UGA offense racked up 545 yards. Defensively Georgia allowed 467 yards to the potent Clemson offense with Amarlo Herrera leading the way with eight tackles, Ramik Wilson had 7.5 tackles, and Brendan Langley had 6.5 tackles. In a close game Georgia lost the turnover battle 2-1 and that is where the difference was in the end.

The South Carolina Gamecocks came out fired up against the UNC Tar Heels in their season opener and they walked away with a 17-point win. QB Connor Shaw is still a more talented runner than passer as he ran for 55 yards and completed just over 50 percent of his passes. The South Carolina running game seems to be in good shape as Mike Davis ran for 115 yards including a 75 yard touchdown and Brandon Wilds ran for 64 yards. Shaw spread the ball around as Nick Jones had four catches, Shaq Roland had two catches including a 65-yard touchdown, and Bruce Ellington was limited to one catch. The South Carolina defense was solid for the most part but star Jadaveon Clowney didn’t have his best day looking gassed as UNC went away from him and he appeared to melt in the heat; no doubt he will look to come back and make a statement in this rivalry game. T.J Gurley led the Gamecocks defense with seven tackles while Jimmy Legree was among those with four tackles. The South Carolina defense allowed 293 yards in all with 99 of those coming on the ground, an area where they will be tested in this one.
Georgia is 4-0 against the spread I their last four SEC games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games, and 5-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. South Carolina is 6-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven SEC games, and 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games overall. South Carolina is 5-0-1 against the spread in the last six meetings of these two.
Georgia is explosive but they have some big problems on defense and that and shorter prep time are their undoing here as I like South Carolina to win this one outright.
