The Bowling Green Falcons travel to the Kent State Golden Flashes to open up conference play.
Bowling Green drew a tough foe to open 2013 in Tulsa, but at the final whistle it was the Golden Hurricane that weren't so tough in a one sided 34-7 Falcons victory. TU trailed 6-0 at the break and missed out on a few prime scoring chances before BGSU turned on the jets after intermission. The numbers say the defensive-oriented Falcons dominated Tulsa in all phases by holding the visitors to only 273 yards and 12 first downs and holding Cody Green to 17-34 for 172 yards. The Falcons offense finally hit their stride with a 21 point fourth to win going away, with Travis Green leading a grinding rushing attack with 88 yards and the team totaling 233 altogether. QB Matt Johnson (11-23/151) was less than spectacular, with a pick, although he he did spread the ball around to seven receivers and hit a few for nice gains.

Kent State knocked off sub division Liberty 17-10 in an unexpected tight contest that was tied 10-10 in the fourth before the Golden Flashes pulled it out with over four minutes remaining. KSU has the defense to thank for this one by limiting the Fames to only 222 yards, eleven first downs and 21 minutes of possession. The Kent offense totaled 361 yards, but didn't dominate as expected, especially on the ground where the team mustered 167 yards on 49 carries for less than a 3.5 yard average. Trayion Durham led the back field with 92 yards on 21 totes, but it was the passing of Colin Reardon that most impressive. Reardon hit 21-28 for 194 yards with two scores, including a 42 yard strike to Chris Humphrey for the game winner. The Golden Flashes held the ball for almost 39 minutes and were 8-18 on third down, but struggled to find the end zone.
Bowling Green was stronger than what most people thought against Tulsa and Kent State looked as if they might have over- looked Liberty. I'm looking at the Falcons, but laying a TD just doesn't sit right with me.
