The Idaho Vandals go on the road to take the field with the Wyoming Cowboys in week two.
Idaho struggled in their opener with neither side of the ball able to generate many positives. A 40-6 loss at North Texas says as much, with the Vandals actually taking a 6-0 lead before every thing went down hill. Idaho moved the ball at times with 369 yards but too many mistakes and penalties were part of a dismal performance. The Vandals lost three fumbles and were whistled for eleven penalties and even a decent game under center from Chad Chelich (19-27/230) wasn't going to save the day. The Vandals ran the ball at times as well with Jerral Brown going for 70 yards on six carries but the defense was unable to control the Mean Green, who rolled up 591 yards and moved the ball by any means they saw fit.

It might go down in the record books as just a loss, but Wyoming came within an eye lash of knocking off Nebraska. The 37-34 defeat was quite an offensive display by both teams, with the Cowboys amassing over 600 yards and a whopping 35 first downs. The visitors were able to run or throw at leisure, with Shaun Wick and Brett Smith accounting for 193 rushing yards and Smith was even more lethal through the air. Smith picked apart the Huskers secondary to the tune of 383 yards, with four touchdowns and an interception, with Dominic Rufran hauling in eleven balls for 120 yards. Of course, Nebraska had zero problems with the Cowboys defense, with 530 yards and 27 first downs of their own, as the ground attack dominated Wyoming's front seven with 375 rushing yards. Nebraska never trailed after the first quarter, but were never able to put Smith and company away.
Wyoming is a big favorite with good reason, but the one worry is how do these kids respond after coming so close at Nebraska. I am backing the Cowboys, who can't afford a letdown and being the better team doesn't hurt...
