The Troy Trojans and Arkansas State Red Wolves open conference play on Thursday.
After opening 2013 with an overtime decision over Alabama-Birmingham the Trojans had a much easier time of it in a 66-3 victory over out manned Savannah State. I'm sure the team is hopeful the defense picked up some confidence because that was an area of concern in the opener. Not this time with the Tigers mustering only 147 yards and ten first downs which made life easy for Corey Robinson and the offensive side of the football. Robinson enjoyed a near perfect performance, completing 17-19 for 180 yards and four touchdowns while the rushing attack was just as productive with 251 yards and over six yard average. Eight players ran the ball and 12 caught passes as Troy cleared the benches.

Arkansas State appeared poised for the upset in week two versus Auburn as they faced the coach that left them. At least I thought it looked like a potential upset before the Tigers won going away by a 38-9 count. A 21-3 Auburn half time lead was about as close as this one got as the Red Wolves never broke through offensively. UA was too strong on the ground with over 300 rushing yards while ASU did most of their damage through the air. Adam Kennedy went 29-41 for 272 yards and connected with ten rceivers but couldn't get his team in to the end zone. The ground game was four yards and a cloud of dust with the front seven of the Tigers never giving up the big play in a bend but don't break performance.
I don't think the Trojans can stop the Arkansas State attack because their defense hasn't been a strength. Instead I think the offense will have to score to get a cover which seems possible at double digits...
