The Virginia Tech Hokies play the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday.
Virginia Tech bounced back from their loss against Alabama in week one by beating West Carolina 45-3 on Saturday. RB Trey Edmunds ran for two touchdowns and Detrick Bonner returned one of his two interceptions for a score for the Hokies. Edmunds finished with 68 yards rushing on 15 carries, while RB Mangus chipped in with 84 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. QB Logan Thomas, who was only 5 of 26 against Alabama, finished 17 of 31 for 200 yards to go along with one touchdown and two interceptions. Thomas had two passes intercepted in the end zone and did not look sharp at times. The Virginia Tech defense, which played great against Alabama, played another solid game against West Carolina. The Hokies only allowed 162 total yards, 51 passing and 111 rushing, while forcing 3 turnovers. The Hokies defense will need to play another great game this weekend when they face a high powered ECU offense.

The East Carolina Pirates improved to 2-0 on Saturday by defeating the Florida Atlantic Owls 31-13 on Thursday night. QB Shane Carden led the way for the Pirates, finishing 17 of 25 for 191 yards and two touchdowns. RB Vintavious Cooper had 20 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown, while also catching 5 passes for 49 yards. The Pirates offense has faced two weak defenses so far this year and they will finally be tested this weekend when they face the tough Hokies defense. The East Carolina defense allowed 282 total yards; only 104 came on the ground for FAU. The Pirates forced three turnovers and limited the Owls success on the 3rd down. This was a big improvement for a defense that allowed Old Dominion to score 38 points in week one. The defense will have to play well this week in order to have a chance against Virginia Tech.
The under is 3-0-1 in Hokies last 4 games overall. The Hokies are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Pirates are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
The Virginia Tech Hokies have won nine of last ten meetings against East Carolina, with the Pirates earning a win at home in 2008. East Carolina has a powerful offense that can put up big numbers, but it will be tough to score against the Hokies defense, which I believe has become one of the best in the country. The Pirates defense may have played well against FAU but they will have trouble stopping the rushing attack of Virginia Tech in this one. If, and that’s a big IF, Logan Thomas can play well in this game I believe the Hokies win by double digits.
