The Akron Zips have their work cut out for them on Saturday as the Zips head to Ann Arbor to face off against the Wolverines.
Brady Hoke is starting to build something of a monster in Michigan. Well, that may be a bit of an overstatement right now, but something is in the works for sure in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines took care of business on Saturday night in a primetime game at home against the Fighting Irish. The Wolverines took the lead early over the Irish and never relinquished it, even with the momentum shifts in this one. Devin Gardner was excellent for the Wolverines, completing 21/33 for 294 yards and four scores. Gardner was also the leading rusher on the night for the Wolverines with 82 yards, and while Gardner’s athletic ability provides the Wolverine offense with an amazing weapon, I’m sure Brady Hoke would like Gardner to reign it in a bit. Another huge standout on the night for the Wolverines was WR Gallon. Gallon was outstanding against the Irish, grabbing eight balls for 124 yards and three scores. Defensively the Wolverines were solid, and while Michigan did bend at times, the Wolverines made the stops they needed, when they needed.

The Akron Zips are currently 1-1 on the year after their win over James Madison last weekend. The Zips defeated the Dukes 35-33. The Zips have been far from impressive this season, but Akron did do some nice things offensively against the Dukes. The Zips had two quarterbacks under center against the Dukes, and both Hirschman and Pohl were solid, combining for 287 yards and four scores. Defensively the Zips really struggled against the Dukes offense. James Madison had a shot to get the win late, but on a last ditch effort the Dukes ran out of time just inside the Zips 30 yard line. The Dukes managed 498 yards of offense against the Zips, 310 of which came through the air. This, obviously is not a positive sign, having to face Gardner and Gallon this week in Ann Arbor.
The Zips are an amazing 0-22 overall in their last three seasons as an underdog, and as a dog, the Zips are just 7-14 ATS. Also, as a road underdog of more than 21.5 points, the Zips are just 2-4 against the number. The Wolverines are 20-1 as a favorite the past three years, with an ATS record of 14-6 as a favorite.
I hate these lines. The Wolverines could name their own score here if they really want. The only problem is, do they really want to? I’ll go ahead and lay the points here as the Zips may not even cross the 50 yard line all day long, and try or not the Wolverines should score at least 40.
