The Oregon Ducks and the Tennessee Volunteers face off in a Pac-12 vs. SEC battle in week three college football action.
The Oregon Ducks may be without their former Head Coach Chip Kelly but they didn’t look like they were missing a beat last week in their cross-country road trip to Virginia. Head Coach Mark Helfrich looks to feel right at home at the helm of the Ducks as he was left with an absolute wealth of talent. QB Macus Mariota has completed 53 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions and he has rushed for 235 yards and three more scores. Derron Thomas has rushed for 252 yards and five touchdowns as the Oregon offense just keeps rolling along. Josh Huff leads Oregon receivers with eight catches and Bralon Addison has two touchdown receptions. Sometimes lost in the shuffle the Oregon defense has been outstanding as well allowing 320 yards per game and just 13 total points thus far. Derrick Malone has 23 tackles, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu has 11 tackles, and Tony Washington has 11 tackles including 2.5 sacks. The Ducks are once again a handful and certainly in the mix to win it all this season.

It is just game three for Butch Jones as Head Coach of Tennessee but this is already a monster game for him and his program as they have little to lose here and everything to gain as an upset over the Ducjks in Autzen Stadium would be something to build on. The Vols have already looked greatly improved demolishing Western Kentucky last week in Knoxville in a game that was the type that has given them trouble in recent years. Justin Worley has been outstanding at QB completing 68.8 percent of his passes with four touchdowns. Rajeon Neal is averaging 6.9 yards per carry with four touchdowns and Marlin Lane is averaging 6.1 yards with three touchdowns. Marquez North has five receptions while Jonathon Johnson and Josh Smith are among those with four. The Tennessee defense has been a turnover machine with seven interceptions and two fumble recoveries in two games and winning the turnover battle is the easiest way to improve. LaDarrell McNeil has 11 tackles, A.J. Johnson has 10 tackles, and Brian Randolph has nine tackles and two interceptions. The level of competition increases greatly for the UT defense this week.
Oregon is 7-1 against the spread following a win, 7-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games. Tennessee is 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 games, 3-9-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 against the spread against the Pac-12.
Oregon is simply loaded, there is no mystery to that but Tennessee has its’ fair share of top notch talent as well and it looks like they may finally have a head coach who can take advantage of it. I am not saying the Vols pull the upset here, I just see them playing respectably enough to cover this gigantic number which would be a victory for their program.
