The UCF Knights are off to an impressive start on the season, but the Knights will be challenged on Saturday as UCF heads to Beaver Stadium to face the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are 2-0 to start their season, and are fresh off of a 45-7 beat down of the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Nittany Lions put up 574 yards of offense against Eastern Michigan, while only allowing the Eagles to move the ball for 183 on the day. The Nittany Lions are starting a Freshman at the quarterback spot, but Hackenberg has been solid this season so far. On Saturday against the Eagles, the freshman quarterback threw for 311 yards and one score, while also throwing one pick on the day. Penn State decided to put their big boy pants on for the Eagles as the Nittany Lions bullied Eastern Michigan around at the line of scrimmage. The Nittany Lions dominated the line play as PSU rushed for 251 yards, while holding the Eagles to just 61 yards on the ground.

The UCF Knights are playing good ball this season, and are currently off to a 2-0 start. The Knights are a bit lesser known, but UCF has talent to be sure. The Knights are coming off a solid 38-0 win over the Florida International Panthers, and sure while FIU isn’t exactly the Crimson Tide, a win is a win, and the Knights did what good teams, do against lesser competition, and that is dominate. The Knights out gained the Panthers 390-173, and honestly it could have been worse. UCF quarterback Blake Bortles had a solid day, and while Bortles may not put up the flashiest stats, he is very efficient. The UCF signal caller threw for 214 yards on the day against the Panthers, while also contributing one score. The Knights mainly focused on the ground game against the Panthers, rushing the ball 38 times for 165 yards and four scores on the day.
The Knights haven’t played well recently as an underdog, as UCF is 0-6 overall, and just 2-4 against the spread in their last six games as a dog. As a favorite the past three seasons, the Nittany Lions are an impressive 16-1 overall, while going 9-7 against the number.
I have to back the Nittany Lions here. The Knights are a good team, and I like what UCF is doing, but the Nittany Lions are always tough at home. The Knights try and push people around, and against lesser competition that works fine, but the Nittany Lions are not going to be bullied. If this line jumps up to around a touchdown for the Nittany Lions, I would take a hard look at the Knights, but as things set right now, backing Penn State here looks like the play.
