The Boston College Eagles travel to Southern California to take on the Trojans on Saturday.
Boston College improved to 2-0 last Thursday by defeating Wake Forest 24-10, matching the Eagles win total from last season. The offense produced 314 total yards, 123 thru the air and 191 on the ground. RB Andre Williams led the Eagles with 35 carries for a career-high 204 yards and a touchdown. QB Chase Rettig completed 7 of 14 passes for 123 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. But most of the offense came from Williams, who didn’t practice during the week after tweaking his hamstring against Villanova in the season opener. The Eagles allowed 246 total yards on defense and held the Demon Deacons to 55 yards rushing. The Boston College defense forced three turnovers and stopped Wake Forest with a pair of goal-line stands. Looking ahead to this week, the Eagles will need to stop a tough running attack in USC to have a chance of pulling off the upset. Boston College will also have to get more production out of Rettig and the passing game because the Trojans are strong up front and will slow down Williams and the rushing attack.

The USC Trojans were upset by Washington State 10-7 on Saturday and fell to 1-1 on the season. USC’s seven points tied for its fewest in any game in the last 10 seasons. The Trojans offense produced a lousy 193 total yards with only 54 passing yards. QB Kessler was 8 of 13 for 41 yards with one interception. The lone bright spot was the rushing game, where RB Madden rushed for 151 yards on 32 carries. Future NFL draft pick, WR Marqise Lee, had seven catches for just 27 yards for the Trojans, whose inept offense performance had fans loudly booing and chanting even before USC feel behind. The fans really let Head Coach Lane Kiffin have it when he ran up the tunnel alone after his halftime interview. The Trojans defense played well, limiting the Washington State offense to 222 total yards. USC held the Cougars to only 7 yards rushing and forced three turnovers in the loss. The Trojans were without and may still be without injured tailbacks Silas Redd and D.J. Morgan and cornerback Anthony Brown. USC has shown that their scholarship restrictions have severely affected their depth and talent up and down the roster. The Trojans will have to forget about this loss and bounce back against Boston College on Saturday.
The Eagles are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games. The under is 20-6 in the Eagles last 26 non-conference games. The Trojans are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. The under is 4-0 in the Trojans last 4 games overall.
The most recent meeting between these two teams was in 2009 when USC beat Boston College at home 24-13. Boston College has a solid defense that will be facing a USC offense that is one-dimensional so far this season. USC has had success running the ball with their backups but they are struggling to find a quarterback that can lead them thru the air. Boston College has also had success running the ball but they will face a tough Trojans front seven on Saturday. Rettig will need to make some plays thru the air to give the Eagles a chance in this one. I think this will be a low scoring game and Boston College will keep it interesting down to the 4th quarter. I’ll take the Eagles and the 14 points.
