The Fresno State Bulldogs play host to the rival Boise State Broncos in week four action on Friday.
After watching Boise State ride a second half surge to rout visiting Air Force 42-20 I can say with confidence that this isn't the dominant Broncos club we have been accustomed to seeing over the years. The numbers do tell a different story with Boise dominating total yardage 546-296 with 30 first downs against a banged up Falcons squad. Joe Southwick completed 27-29 for 287 yards with a touchdown and interception as he continues to try to live up to past signal callers. Matt Miller was the receiver of choice with 10 catches for 112 yards while Jay Ajayi ran amok for 125 yards for 125 yards and four trips to the end zone. The telling stat was the Falcons running game was limited to 197 yards and less then four yard average.

Fresno State has had no problem finding the end zone with points being plentiful in their 2-0 start but I'm not sure their defense hasn't been as dominant. In their opener Rutgers scored at will and a 41-25 win over visiting Cal Poly certainly wasn't an eye opener. The flip side was the Bulldogs led 34-0 after 30 minutes and coasted so actually this could have been much worse. FSU gained 370 yards with David Carr doing most of the damage through the air with 205 yards on 22-31 and three touchdowns with nine players posting receptions. Six players totaled 140 yards rushing on 40 carries while Isaiah Burse returned a punt 61 yards. The defense shut out the Mustangs in the first half and gave plenty of playing time to others over the final two quarters which hides how dominant Fresno was.
I am sure that Fresno State would have liked to keep up the momentum against Colorado but Mother Nature ruined those plans. Although Boise State has fared well in this match up I believe the Bulldogs are better but I still wouldn't like to give any points to the Broncos...
