The Utah Uses head to BYU on Saturday to face off against the Cougars in the Holy War.
The BYU Cougars are currently sitting at 1-1 on the season as the Cougars are coming off an impressive win against the Texas Longhorns back on September Seventh. The Cougars have had an extra week to prepare, and having extra preparation time for a rivalry game is always a plus. The Cougars have the 71st ranked scoring offense in the country currently, scoring an average of 28 points per game. The Cougars defense is playing well this season, holding opponents to just 20 points per game on average. The Cougar offense could basically do whatever it wanted against the Longhorns as BYU put up 679 yards of offense against Texas. The Cougars’ quarterback Hill, only had 129 yards passing through the air, but Hill was outstanding on the ground, leading the Cougars ground attack with 259 yards and three scores. BYU as a team rushed for 550 yards against the Longhorns, completing thrashing through the Texas front seven.

The Utah Uses are currently 2-1 on the year, and are coming off a tough loss to the Oregon State Beavers last weekend 51-48. The Uses have one of the more dynamic offenses in the nation, scoring more than 49 points per game, but on the defensive side of the ball the Uses are struggling this year, giving up more than 28 points per game on average. Utah once again was able to move the ball against the Beavers, putting up 539 yards of offense on the day. Utah Quarterback Wilson did it all for the Uses, throwing for 279 yards and two scores, while also rushing for 142, leading the Utah offense on the ground. The Uses as a team rushed for 260 yards and four scores against Oregon State. Defensively the Uses did have some issues as Oregon State managed 491 yards of offense against Utah, and the Utah defense couldn’t keep the Oregon State offense out of the end zone in OT, resulting in the loss for Utah.
In their last 12 road games, the Uses are just 4-8 against the spread, and 5-7 overall. So far this season the Uses are 2-1 against the spread. The Cougars are just 1-5 against the spread as a favorite of 3.5 to 10 points, and when playing on extra rest, the Cougars are 4-1 against the spread in their last five. Currently on the year, BYU is 1-1 against the number.
I’m going to take the Cougars here at home. This is always a tough game, and being played at night in LaVell Edwards Stadium is a huge plus for this Cougars team. The Cougars have had extra time to prepare, and the Uses are coming off a tough overtime loss to the Beavers last weekend. This should be a fun game to watch on Saturday night.
