The Pittsburgh Panthers travel to Duke to take on the Blue Devils on Saturday.
Pittsburgh improved to 1-1 on the season after beating New Mexico, 49-27, on Saturday. The Panthers were blown out in their season opener at home against Florida State, so this was a good way for Pittsburgh to bounce back. The Panthers put up an outstanding 527 total yards of offense against New Mexico, with a balanced attack of 244 yards passing and 283 yards rushing. QB Savage completed 13 of 17 passes for 236 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. WR Boyd caught 6 balls for 134 yards, while WR Street caught 5 passes for 80 yards. RB Conner rushed 12 times for 119 yards and RB Bennett added 101 yards on 14 carries, while both running backs rushed for 2 touchdowns in the win. Defensively, the Panthers played well but it didn’t show on the scoreboard due to the 4 turnovers that the offense produced. Pittsburgh held New Mexico to 270 total yards, with only 57 coming thru the air. Pittsburgh will have to play the same level of defense on the road against a decent Blue Devil squad.

The Duke Blue Devils dropped to 2-1 on the season after losing to Georgia Tech at home, 38-14. The Blue Devils defense allowed 469 total yards against the Yellow Jacket offense. Duke gave up 344 yards on the ground, as Georgia Tech picked up 28 first downs and held the ball for over 38 minutes in the game. Offensively, Duke only produced 254 total yards, 122 passing and 132 rushing. QB Connette completed 15 of 28 passes for 122 yards. WR Blackney grabbed 4 balls for 49 yards and star WR Crowder added 6 catches for 38 yards. RB Duncan carried the ball 16 times for 89 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Duke will have their hands full again defensively as they face a good Pittsburgh offense this week. However, the Blue Devils should have success offensively, as the Pittsburgh defense has shown they are vulnerable early on in the season.
The Panthers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win. Duke is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a double-digit loss at home. The under is 8-2 in the Panthers last 10 road games. The over is 5-2 in Duke’s last 7 home games.
These two teams have never faced each other and this should be a close game down to the final seconds in the my opinion. The Panthers lost 3 out of their last 4 road games last year and this will be their first time traveling in the ACC. Duke was dominated by Georgia Tech last week at home and does not want to drop two straight on their home field. I think both defenses are vulnerable and I see both teams putting up 28 points in this game. I think the winner will be determined by who takes care of the ball late in the game, so I’ll lean towards the home dog. The over is a strong play as both offenses will have success in this game.
