The Ball State Cardinals visit Rynearson Stadium to take the field with the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
Ball State played two games Saturday; a great first half and a bad second half which is just about as bad as I've seen this team play for 30 minutes in a 34-27 loss at North Texas. The offense rolled up nearly 500 yards with most coming in a 27 point first half but no points in the final two quarters and five turnovers explain what happened. Keith Wenning completed 27-46 for 333 yards with two touchdowns and two picks with Jamill Smith hauling in four balls for 115 yards while Willie Snead grabbed five balls including both scores. The Cardinals seldom ran the ball but Horatio Banks did his share of the damage with 141 yards on eleven carries including a 77 yard scoring jaunt. The defense was ineffective the entire game with the Mean Green amassing 505 yards with equal ability to run or throw.

Eastern Michigan is a team that needs all phases of the game to click to win games and to just stay competitive overall. I think the 28-10 loss at Rutgers wasn't a bad performance but there were break downs throughout with the special teams giving up a 99 yard kick return and the defense allowing 185 rushing yards. However the offense struggled for consistency with 373 total yards with no ability to run the ball with 40 carries netting only 38 yards. Tyler Benz had a solid day through the air, going 24-40 for 335 yards with a 43 yard touchdown toss to Ryan Brumfield with an interception. The bottom line was the Scarlet Knights scored when they had too and Eastern Michigan was held out of the end zone.
I am leaning to Ball State to rebound from their awful performance at North Texas but laying over a touchdown on the road on a team that was handled on both sides of the ball in the second half versus the Mean Green isn't real comforting...
