The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders visit the Florida Atlantic Owls in week four action.
Middle Tennessee State might be a mystery right now and we can blame that on their struggles with Memphis. The Blue Raiders had their hands full with Memphis in a 17-15 victory as an eight point favorite. Most of the questions surround the offense which managed only 284 yards and struggled to move the ball on the ground with just 60 yards on 28 carries. That put the job of moving the chains on the shoulders of Logan Kilgore which isn't a bad idea but he did misfire on some throws and finished with 224 yards while completing 22-36. Tavarres Jefferson led ten receivers with seven catches for 78 yards but it was the defense that saved the day with the Tigers held to 350 yards and two turnovers while stopping a two point conversion.

Have things begun to turn around for Florida Atlantic? That's a definite maybe as the Owls didn't threaten in losses to Miami and East Carolina before they stuffed South Florida 28-10 on the road as a 12 point dog. The question is how good is South Florida to answer the above question with a question. What I do know is the offense needs help with only 228 yards and 13 first downs versus the Bulls. The ground game was 3 1/2 yards and a cloud of dust with Jonathan Wallace and Jaquez Johnson combining for 120 yards on 31 carries with each adding a touchdown. Johnson added another 98 yards through the air with a pick so FAU clearly didn't move the ball. The defense saved their bacon by holding USF to 297 yards and returned an interception 75 yards for six as well as bringing back a fumble for another score.
I don't think it's wise to shower Florida Atlantic with praise and claim they are improved until they find an offense. I also don't think it's wise for the Blue Raiders to be laying points on the road. I have MTSU as about a TD favorite so do with this as you will...
