The West Virginia Mountaineers play the Maryland Terrapins in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday.
West Virginia improved to 2-1 on Saturday after beating Georgia State 41-7. West Virginia put up 604 total yards, 359 passing and 245 rushing in the win. Redshirt freshman QB Ford Childress threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns in his college debut for the Mountaineers. WR Shorts caught 5 balls for 88 yards, while WR Carswell caught 3 balls for 67 yards. RB Charles Sims rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown for West Virginia, who got the scoring boost they needed after a poor performance the week before against Oklahoma where they scored just seven points. The Mountaineers defense played well, allowing only 220 total yards and forcing one turnover in the game. The West Virginia defense will have a tougher test this week when they face a Maryland squad that is full of playmakers.

The Maryland Terps improved to 3-0 on the year after beating UConn on the road 32-21 on Saturday. The Maryland offense produced 501 total yards, going over 500 yards for the third straight game. QB C.J. Brown ran for 122 yards and a touchdown and threw for 277 yards and another score on Saturday night, giving head coach Randy Edsall his first win over the program he coached for 12 years. WR Stefon Diggs had 110 yards receiving, including a 12-yard touchdown for the Terps, who improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2001. While the offense turned the ball over 3 times in the win, the defense forced 2 turnovers against UConn. The Terps defense allowed 383 total yards, with only 34 yards coming on the ground. Maryland will be challenged this weekend against an explosive West Virginia offense.
The under is 6-0 in WVU’s last 6 games overall. WVU is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. Maryland is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games. The favorite is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
West Virginia has won the last seven meetings between these two teams dating back to 2004. I think this will be a great game to watch and a close game down to the final possession. Maryland has some great playmakers and it’s going to be hard for West Virginia to contain them. However, West Virginia has some weapons of their own on offense and Maryland will have their hands full. I think Maryland gets the win late in this game, but I’ll take the points on a neutral field with two evenly matched teams.
