The UNLV Rebels head to University Stadium to take the field with the New Mexico Lobos.
If you follow UNLV football then you are well aware that this team hasn't won too many games over the years so back to back wins is a pretty big deal. That's what the Rebels have done after knocking off Western Illinois 38-7 in week four. Here is the one thing that holds me back from being too thrilled if I were a fan and that is WIU is a sub division squad and their win versus Central Michigan came at home against a team without their running back or quarterback. The bottom line is this team has shown more offensive ability with Tim Cornett on the ground but could still use some better passing from Caleb Herring and doing it on the road would be the ultimate accomplishment.

New Mexico fell to 1-2 in the early going following a 49-27 pounding at Pittsburgh which wasn't totally unexpected. The problem for this team is they are a run first, run last, run all the time squad that doesn't throw the ball much. So that means they are in trouble if they can't control the scoreboard and are forced to play catch up. That was what happened versus Pitt who led 35-6 at the break and essentially rendered the UNM ground attack null and void. The Lobos still only put the ball in the air 15 times and ran it 52 times for 213 yards so they still ran it despite being down. The concern I had versus the Panthers was Kasey Carrier was held to only 22 yards and the Lobos need much more from him to win games.
New Mexico has to get the lead on UNLV and then pound the ball on the ground to eat up some clock and keep a little more balanced offense on the sideline. Having said that the Rebels are no bargain on the road so tread with caution...
