The New Mexico State Aggies host the San Diego State Aztecs in week five action on Saturday.
San Diego State has only three games under their belt so it's tough to label them one way or the other but they don't seem to be as strong as they have been the past few years. Their 0-3 start says as much but their performance in each was even more telling with the scoring and defense taking a step back. The offense really burned the Aztecs in a 34-30 loss at Oregon State with only 325 yards but the killer was a Quinn Kaehler pick six with 2 1/2 minutes left. Kaehler threw for 251 yards with two scores and a pair of interceptions with Colin Lockett grabbing five throws for 113 yards including an 80 yard pitch and catch. However, no running attack, penalties and mistakes were just too much.

A quick look at New Mexico State with their 0-4 start and we see a team that has trouble scoring and stopping opponents from doing the same. A 59-13 loss at UCLA was a prime example of both issues but in theri defense, the Bruins are loaded and will whack plenty of other teams. UCLA dominated total yardage 692-333 with the Aggies actually doing a decent job on the ground with 187 yards and over 4 1/2 yard average but the team needed twice as much to keep the UCLA offense off the field. NMSU needed some viable passing as well but 146 yards simply not enough with the Bruins ripping off hufe gains throughout.
Initially I was looking at San Diego State because they are the better team and do have blow out potential but I have this number at around 17 and will back the Aggies with no real edge with the spread...
