The Cal Golden Bears take their turn at stopping the high powered Oregon Ducks attack.
Cal was probably not at the top of the list when the experts were listing the challengers in the PAC 12. From what we have seen through a 1-2 start this team might have the scoring punch to be a factor but not the defense. The points were flowing in a 52-34 loss to visiting Ohio State but the Buckeyes obviously enjoyed more visits to the end zone with a 618-503 advantage in real estate. Cal needed a more potent rushing attack to keep the OSU offense on the sideline but Daniel Lasco (10-69) was the only runner able to find any room on the ground. Jared Goff kept the Golden Bears reasonalbly competitive with 371 yards and three touchdown passes but the defense couldn't slow the Buckeyes at all.

No Chip Kelly, no problem for Oregon who have been racking up the points at a break neck pace. The Ducks have averaged over 60 points in going 3-0 with the defense giving up less then ten points. Both sides of the ball enjoyed an almost leisurely 59-14 rout of Tennessee who essentially had this one in the bag with a 38-7 lead after 30 minutes. The numbers tell the story with Oregon posting a 687-316 advantage in total yards with equal ability to run or throw effectively whenever they chose. De'Anthony Thomas led the rushing attack with 86 yards with eight runners totaling 216 yards and averaging over five yards per touch. Marcus Mariota (33-43) threw for 456 yards and four scores with Josh Huff and John Mundt combining for 246 yards on eleven catches with three TD's. The defense did allow 178 rushing yards but the Volunteers needed passing yards and quick scores which didn't happen.
To start off I don't generally play the games with high spreads where the back door cover is always a danger with the big faves letting up on the gas. I'm leaning Oregon but I want to see what the total is first...
