The Tennessee Volunteers and the South Alabama Jaguars face off on Saturday in Knoxville in college football action.
The Tennessee Volunteers started the season 2-0 but then the Vols went on the road and lost their last two. This week Tennessee returns hoe and with a non-conference opponent the Vols hope to return to winning. Tennessee is unsettled at QB where Justin Worley has completed 56.2 percent of his passes for sox touchdowns and three interceptions and Nathan Peterman has completed 43.5 percent of his passes with two interceptions and no touchdowns. Rajeon Neal is averaging 5.4 yards per carry with four touchdowns and Marlin Lane is averaging 5.3 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Marquez North leads the Tennessee receivers with 12 catches and Alton Howard has eight catches and two touchdowns. The Tennessee defense allows 27.5 points per game with eight interceptions, six sacks, and while they have forced 11 fumbles they have recovered four of those. A.J. Johnson has 27 tackles, Brian Randolph has 25 tackles and two interceptions, and Dontavis Sapp has 21 tackles. While it is still early in the year this is a must win game for UT.

The South Alabama Jaguars started the season with a one point loss but they have rebounded winning their next two ad are looking to pull the upset at Tennessee. Both USA QB’s have seen action as Ross Metheny has completed with 67.7 percent of his passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 99 yards and three touchdowns and Brandon Bridge has completed 50 percent of his passes and he has rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown. Jay Jones is averaging 6.6 yards per carry with a touchdown and Chris Dinham is averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Jereme Jones leads the South Alabama receivers with 13 catches and a touchdown, Wes Saxton has 12 catches, and Shavarez Smith has 10 catches. Defensively South Alabama allows 28.3 points per game and 372 yards with four interception, eight sacks, and one fumble recovery. Qudarius Ford has 26 tackles as does Enrique Williams and Charles Watson has 22 tackles. This is easily USA’s toughest game on the schedule thus far.
Tennessee is 2-7 against the spread in their last nine home games, 3-10-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 7-1 against the spread against the Sun Belt. South Alabama is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 road games, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games in September.
This is a big number and while I see Tennessee possibly pushing South Alabama around like they did to WKU, more than likely this is closer than this huge number.
