The Houston Cougars visit the the Alamodome to face the rival Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners Saturday.
The Cougars might have a little different make up then years past when the goal was to light up the scoreboard with a high powered aerial assault that routinely threw 50+ points on the board. The Cougars appear to still ba a capable offensive team but have shown some stopping power on defense through a 3-0 start. Both sides of the ball need had a hand in Saturday's 32-26 decision at Rice. The Cougars approached 500 yards with a decent mix between the run and pass with Reggie Jackson and Greg Ward Jr. combining for 167 yards on 28 carries. John O'Korn struggled to connect with his receiving corps but good things happened when he did. O'Korn completed 15-33 for 281 yards for three touchdowns and a pick while the D held Rice in check except for a lone 57 yard TD throw.

Texas-San Antonio was probably an afterthought in 2012 as they were transitioning to major college football. The transition continues this year with the team moving to the CUSA so they will be facing many teams for the first time. The Roadrunners improved to 2-2 following a 32-13 decision over Texas El Paso behind strong performances on both sides of the ball although the special teams were tagged with a 100 yard kick return. The rushing attack totaled 186 yards and averaged over 5 1/2 yards per carry with five runners averaging at least five yards per touch. Eric Soza was deadly efficient in a controlled passing attack that saw him complete 18-24 for 204 yards with a touchdown and zero turnovers.
This might be a bigger test for Houston then what many expect with this being on the road. Looking at this and I believe the Cougars have an offensive edge and are no slouch on defense which has me looking their way...
