The Vanderbilt Commodores and the UAB Blazers face off on Saturday in Nashville in a college football match up.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are off to a 2-2 start to the season winning twice out of conference and losing twice to SEC teams. QB Austyn Carta-Samuels has completed 60.7 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 63 yards and three touchdowns. Wesley Tate is Vandy’s top rusher averaging 4.2 yards per carry with two touchdowns and Jerron Seymour is averaging 5.1 yards per carry with four touchdowns. Jordan Mathews continues his stellar career for Vandy with 32 catches thus far and three touchdowns and Jonathan Krause has 15 catches and one touchdown. Defensively the Commodores are allowing 21 points per game, 363.8 yards, with one interception, four fumble recoveries, and nine sacks. Kenny Ladler has 30 tackles, Javon Marshall has 26 tackles, and Darreon Herring has 25 tackles. Vandy knows these out of conference home wins are key as SEC wins are going to be tough to come by.

The UAB Blazers are coming off of their first win of the year but it came against FCS NW Louisiana State. UAB QB Austin Brown has completed 52.1 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and one interception. Darrin Reaves leads the UAB running attack with a 6.9 yard per carry average and three touchdowns and Jordan Howard averages 4.8 yards per carry with on touchdown. Jamarcus Nelson is the Blazers leading receiver with 16 catches and four touchdowns, Jamari Staples has nine catches and two touchdowns, and Kennard Backman has eight catches and a touchdown. Defensively UAB is allowing 39.3 points per game, 428.7 yards per game with one interception, three sacks, and four fumble recoveries. Jake Ganus has 25 tackles, Destin Challenger has 15 tackles, and Lamarcus Farmer has 13 tackles. UAB was crushed at LSU earlier this season and they are hoping for better results against this SEC team.
Vanderbilt is 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 home games, 7-0 against the spread following a win, and 703 against the spread in their last 10 games. UAB is 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 2-6 against the spread following a win, and 5-2 against the spread on artificial turf.
This is just a lot of points and while Vandy is the much better team, three touchdowns may be too big of a number in a game I don’t love.
