The Notre Dame Fightin' Irish and Arizona State Sun Devils take the field at Cowboys Stadium Saturday.
Arizona State upped their record to 3-1 with their big offense laying a 62-41 pounding on Southern Cal, which cost Lane Kiffin his job and might have been even more joyous for the USC haters. The final score tells us there wasn't much defense played here with ASU winning the yardage battle 612-542 with 26 first downs and one turnover. The trio of Taylor Kelly, Deantre Lewis and Marion Grice combined for 206 of the 261 rushing yards that averaged 7 1/2 yards per carry. Kelly was even more impressive through the air with 351 yards with three touchdowns and a pick with Jaelen Strong hauling in seven receptions for 103 yards. Even though the defense hardly stopped the Trojans, they have to be credited for their four forced turnovers and a pick six.

When I look at Notre Dame and their 3-2 record I am not impressed by what they have done. A win over a really bad Temple squad and a seven point victory over Purdue are not something that scares a soul. A loss to Michigan, who hasn't set the world on fire and a decisive loss to Oklahoma tells me the Fightin' Irish are not the threat they were last season. Defense and a few big plays led the Sooners past the Irish 35-21 with OU holding a 450-324 edge in yardage. George Atkinson III led the Fightin' Irish with 148 yards with 80 coming on a lone scoring burst. which was about the only highlight of the day for Notre Dame. Tommy Rees was abysmal with just 104 yards on 9-24 passing with a pair of touchdowns and three interceptions, including a pick six.
I am not a Notre Dame fan, but it isn't hard to see this isn't one of their best teams. Arizona State should win this, but from a situational standpoint, I lean Irish after the Sun Devils blasted USC. I said lean because this isn't a game I would play...
