The Tulsa Golden Hurricane host the Rice Owls in a CUSA battle in week six action.
The rush first Owls look a better performance then we saw in an 18-14 decision over visiting Florida Atlantic. Rice was almost non existent offensively with a mere 273 yards with the defense forced to not only stop FAU but also help in the scoring column. Rice allowed 366 yards and returned a fumble for six that cut the deficit to 14-12 before an interception set up the offense on a short field for the go ahead score. Taylor McHarque was an abysmal 7-24 through the air for only 69 yards but did lead the team on the ground with 71 yards while Darik Dillard added 62 yards. However, if not for the four turnovers forced by the defense this game was a loss.

I knew that coming in to 2013 that Tulsa would be hard pressed to match their past success with so much talent gone. The cupboard was not totally bare but suffice to say some important pieces were missing which is why we have seen a 1-3 start. As I said the cupboard wasn't bare so a 38-21 home loss to Iowa State was a bit surprising with the Cyclones taking advantage of Tulsa miscues throughout. The Golden Hurricane lost three fumbles and were intercepted once in being out gained 434-374. The key was Iowa State could run and throw and the home team could not move the ball on the ground with 86 yards. Cody Green completed 18-31 for 237 yards and a pair of touchdowns with Jordan James catching eight passes for 86 yards.
Neither team played well last time out and if forced to choose I would say rice was worse...much worse. If the Owls go to Tulsa and have a repeat performance they will be slaughtered even if the Golden Hurricane don't play great so I'm hopeful we see marked improvement...
