The Kent State Golden Flashes will be visiting conference rival the Ball State Cardinals in week seven.
Kent State lost some talent from a year ago which shows in their record but the loss of star Dri Archer to injury was devistating. Archer returned in a 38-24 defat to Northern Illinois but likely wasn't 100% although a 100 yard kick return would say he is just fine. Even so, he doesn't play defense and the Golden Flashes needed some stops against NIU that rolled up nearly 700 yards. Kent State fell short in that department with 392 yards with obvious struggles through the air as Colin Reardon (16-35/209) threw for pair of touchdowns and an interception and generally had trouble connecting with his receivers with Archer leading the way with four catches for 80 yards including a 66 yard TD. Trayion Durham paced the rushing attack with72 yards on 14 totes with Julian Durham ripping off a 48 yard run but in the end the NIU offense couldn't be contained.

Ball State pulled off a 48-27 upset victory at Virginia behind their explosive offense although I don't know how much of a surprise this was with the Cardinals being the better team in my view. Ball rolled up over 500 yards of offense with most coming in a 31 point second half to snap a 17-17 tie enterng the break. Jahwan Edwards gave the Cavaliers plenty to think about with 155 rushing yards with three trips to the end zone. However, it was the air where the Cardinals really prospered behind 346 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns from Keith Wenning. Jordan Williams and Willie Snead were the receivers of choice with a combined 263 yards on 15 receptons. Virginia did move the ball with 459 yards in a bend but don't break defensive effort by the Cardinals.
The Cardinals have enough weapons to score and might have too if Dri Archer breaks loose. I'm wondering if Ball State has a let down but for now I'm looking their way and will think about and look at the total as well...
