The Akron Zips go on the roar to face Jordan Lynch and the Northern Illinois Huskies in MAC action.
Akron is improved over previous seasons with some unexpected scoring punch at times but nothing went well in a 43-3 defeat at Ohio in their conference opener. I thought that the Akron defense played well enough with Ohio totaling 362 yards but they were playing in the shadow of their own goal post all to often with their own offense mustering only 157 yards with an interception and a fumble that was returned for a TD as well as giving up a safety. Kyle Pohl was 11-26 for 101 yards and a pick but was running for his life most of the time with 12 runs/sacks netting -46 yards. Jawon Chisolm turned out to be one of the few bright spots with a 15 carry, 60 yard performance.

NIU dominated total yardage 698-392 with Lynch doing a little of everything with 244 passing yards with a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 94 yards with his legs. However, Cameron Stingily stole the show with a whopping 266 rushing yards on 37 carries with two trips to the end zone.
The Huskies offense is still fearsome and if the defense can keep opponents in the 20's this is a very tough team to deal with. If this scenario unfolds against Akron NIU should cover...
