The Tulsa Golden Hurricane travel to Sun Bowl Stadium to face the Texas El Paso Miners.
I think it's accurate to say this isn't the Tulsa squad of the past several years and a quick glance at their record says as much. If the Golden Hurricane are to have a shot at a Bowl, they need to string together some wins, which is essentially saying score more points and give up less. Tulsa fell to 1-4 following a 30-27 overtime loss to visiting Rice. Rice won the first half 24-10 before TU stormed back to force the extra session. Tulsa won the battle for real estate 415-344 with Trey Watts leading a solid ground game with 165 yards on 34 carries and a pair of touchdowns. The air was a bit more problematic with too many misfires and miscues to be effective. Cody Green completed 19-32 for 193 yards with a pair of interceptions.

As usual, Texas El Paso is tough to nail down, although they aren't winning at 1-4 with some tough games ahead of them so it's win now or watch the postseason on TV. One thing the Miners have done well is put points on the scoreboard behind a top 40 running attack that is averaging over 200 yards. The problem is they are near the bottom of the college ranks in defending the rush with 255 yards allowed that has led to 38 points per contest. A 38-35 loss to Louisiana Tech followed this script perfectly with the Bulldogs amassing 353 rushing yards with over seven yards per touch. UTEP ran for over 200 yards as well with Aaron Jones leading the way with 121 yards on 18 tries. Jameill Showers (18-31/237) had a productive game in the air with three touchdowns and a pick with Jordan Leslie snaring five balls for 114 yards and two scores.
UTEP might have let one get away versus La Tech and Tulsa definitely let one get away against Rice. I like the Miners ability to score and the Golden Hurricane should put the ball in the end zone versus the UTEP defense, which has me looking at the over...
