The UCLA Bruins and the Cal Golden Bears face off on Saturday in a Pac-12 college football matchup of top and bottom teams.
The UCLA Bruins are looking to take their program to the next level and thus far they are off to a perfect start. The Bruins are cooking on both sides of the ball and offensively they are averaging 48 points and 561.8 yards per game. QB Brett Hundley has completed 65.5 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 242 yards and three scores. Jordan James leads the UCLA rushing attack averaging 6.3 yards per carry and scoring five touchdowns and Paul Perkins is averaging 6.2 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Devin Fuller has 16 catches and a touchdown, Shaquell Evans as 14 catches and three touchdowns, and Jordan Payton has nine catches and a touchdown. Defensively UCLA is allowing 20.2 points and 362.2 yards per game with seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and nine sacks. Eric Kendricks has 39 tackles and an interception, Jordan Zumwalt has 24 tackles, and Anthony Barr has 23 tackles and three sacks. The tougher part of UCLA’s schedule is still in front of them.

The Cal Bears are having a miserable season with their only win thus far coming against FCS Portland State. The Bears offense isn’t getting it done averaging 27 points per game and 515.6 yards. QB Jared Goff has completed 59.4 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns but he has thrown five interceptions. Brendan Bigelow is averaging 3.7 yards per carry and he has nine catches out of the backfield and Daniel Lasco averages 4.3 yards per carry with a touchdown. Chirs Harper is Cal’s leading receiver with 38 catches and four touchdowns while Bryce Treggs has 36 catches and a touchdown and Richard Rodgers has 15 catches and a touchdown. Defensively Cal gives it up in bunches allowing 45 points and 524 yards per game with four interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and five sacks. Khairi Fortt has 36 tackles, Hardy Nickerson has 34 tackles, and Stefan McClure and Jalen Jefferson have 30 tackles each. This looks like it will be a long rebuilding year for the Golden Bears.
UCLA is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven Pac-12 games, and 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 home games. Cal is 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, 0-7 against the spread in their last seven Pac-12 games, and 0-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Cal has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.
These are simply two teams in different places right now and I look for UCLA to absolutely blast Cal here and cover the point spread easily.
