The Massachusetts Minutemen shoot for their second straight victory when they visit the Buffalo Bulls.

When we looked at the Massachusetts schedule before the season began to look for possible wins, Miami (Ohio) looked to be a team that was on par with the Minutemen. Getting the Redhawks at home was an additional bonus and UMass needed every thing they could get as they squeezed out a 17-10 win. The offense has been a problem throughout 2013 but managed to set the team high in points on 376 yards with most coming through the air. Jamal Wilson ran for a game high 80 yards on 23 totes but the rushing attack averaged less then three yards per touch on 44 carries. AJ Doyle did move the chains through the air (19-35/249) but struggled for consistency with a pair of touchdowns and two picks. The defense held the Redhawks to under 300 yards and recorded three picks and were the reasom UMass won in my view.

It doesn't look like Buffalo is the pushover they have been over the years and my guess is that opponents are keeping a wary eye on them for good reason. The Bulls won their fourth in a row in a dominant 33-0 victory at Western Michigan. UB led just 6-0 at the half but once they got rolling the Broncos couldn't stop them with the Bulls holding totaling 422 yards behind nearly 300 rushing yards and over five yard average. Brandon Oliver paced the ground game with 128 yards on 19 carries while James Potts gained 91 yards on 16 totes. The ground and pound Bulls offense picked their spots in the air with Joe Licata going just 11-21 for 124 yards but he threw for three touchdowns and no picks. The Buffalo defense didn't need much with WMU totaling only 202 yards while forcing four giveaways.

Buffalo looks like a team on a mission while Massachusetts could be in let down mode following their first victory of 2013. I'm going with potential here...
