The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles travel to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium to face the East Carolina Pirates.
Southern Mississippi is suffering through another year where it has been difficult to find the end zone and keep opponents out. That shows in their 0-5 record after a 24-23 loss to Florida International as a 16 point favorite which was a shock to see them as this large of a fave. Southern Miss was out gained 341-314 and had the ball just 24 minutes with a pair of interceptions and two lost fumbles doing them in. Jalen Richard was the only runner of note with 47 yards on eleven carries as the team totaled 71 rushing yards. Allan Bridgford (26-43/243) did move the team through the air at times but misfired too often with Markese Triplett leading the receiving corps with seven catches for 96 yards and two TD's.

East Carolina's drive to the top of the CUSA East took a step back in a 36-33 loss to a surprising Tulane on Saturday as a ten point favorite. The Pirates dominated total yardage 543-310 with a 31-15 advantage in total yards but were held to 19 points in regulation because drives were stalling when the end zone came within sight with the Pirates kicking four field goals. Vintavious Cooper ran for a game high 87 yards on 22 carries with a pair of touchdowns but it was the air where this team had the most success. Shane Carden completed 41-55 for 480 yards with a 25 yard TD in overtime and an interception with Justin Hardy hauling in 17 receptions for 230 yards. The defense played a winnable game but were hurt with the offense unable to score touchdowns.
East Carolina has advantages in most areas and simply can not afford another loss so the Pirates at home off a defeat seem like the way to go...
