The Line: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets -8 -- Over/Under: 54 See the Latest Odds
The Syracuse Orange travel to Georgia Tech to play the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
Syracuse improved to 3-3 on the year after beating NC State 24-10 on the road last Saturday. The Orange bounced back from a blowout loss at home to Clemson the week prior. Against the Wolfpack, the Orange produced 436 total yards of offense, with all but 74 yards coming on the ground. QB Terrel Hunt played awful for Syracuse, completing 10 of 20 passes for only 74 yards with 2 interceptions. However, the combination of RB Jerome Smith and RB Prince-Tyson Gulley gained 272 yards on the ground on only 28 carries with 2 touchdowns. Two weeks ago against Clemson, Syracuse rushed for 323 yards. The Orange defense allowed 355 yards, 226 passing and 129 rushing. Syracuse did a great job getting off the field on 3rd down, as the Wolfpack were only able to convert 7 of 23 3rd down conversions. The Orange also forced 1 turnover in the win. Syracuse has held all of their opponents under 23 points this season except for Northwestern and Clemson, who have potent offenses. The Orange will have to be at their best on the road this weekend when they face a dangerous offense in Georgia Tech.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets dropped their third straight game at BYU, 38-20, on Saturday and are now a disappointing 3-3 on the season. Georgia Tech started the season with three straight wins over Elon, Duke, and North Carolina. The Yellow Jackets then lost to Virginia Tech and Miami, before losing to the Cougars out west on Saturday. In the loss, Georgia Tech produced 400 yards of offense, with 242 yards coming on the ground. QB Vad Lee did not pass the ball well again, completing 7 of 20 passes for 133 yards and an interception. Lee rushed 21 times for 41 yards with one touchdown, while RB Connors rushed one time for a 55 yard gain in the loss. Georgia Tech struggled to stop the Cougar offense in the first half and failed to overcome a pair of costly fourth quarter turnovers. The Yellow Jackets gave up 433 total yards, with 244 coming thru the air and 189 coming on the ground. Georgia Tech could not stop BYU’s QB Hill and the Cougars duo of running backs. If Georgia Tech is going to get back on track they will have to improve quickly against the run because Syracuse’s offense runs the ball relentlessly. On offense, Lee will have to step it up and make some plays thru the air or the Yellow Jackets will become one dimensional again.
The over is 4-1-1 in Syracuse’s last 6 road games. The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games. The under is 5-1 in Georgia Tech’s last 6 conference games.
These two teams have not played one another since 2004, when Georgia Tech defeated the Orange 51-14 at home. Both of these teams love to establish the run early and often and that will not change in this game. Syracuse should have success running the ball against a Yellow Jacket defense that has struggled to stop any rushing attack thus far this season. The Orange have played well against the run defensively so Georgia Tech’s Lee will have to make some plays thru the air to open up the triple-option attack. I think both teams will score 28 plus points, so I think the over is a good play. I also think this game will be close, so I’ll side with Syracuse and take the points.
