The 3-4 Army Black Knights visit Philadelphia for a Saturday date with the winless Temple Owls from Lincoln Financial Field.
Army got their 3rd win of the season this past weekend as they rushed past Eastern Michigan 50-25. The potent Army ground attack was once again in full effect as the Black Knights rushed for 513 yards on 54 attempts. The Black Knights traded points in the first half with the Eagles but blew the gates off the game in the 3rd quarter on three consecutive drives that resulted in long rushing TD’s. Terry Baggett rushed for two of those touchdowns and finished the contest with a whopping 304 yards on the ground and 4 touchdowns. In all, Army rushed for 7 touchdowns and they rank tops in the nation in rushing yards with an astonishing 352 yards per game.

The Owls miserable season continued to spiral downwards this past weekend as the Owls fell to 0-6 on the year with a 38-20 defeat at Cincinnati. Temple hung tough in this one for about a half before Cincinnati’s ground attack wore them tired and put the game away. Temple held the ball for only 23:00 in this one but have to be pleased with the development of young quarterback PJ Walker. Walker was 12-22 for 200 yards with two TD’s and one interception. Walker added 47 yards on the ground and the Temple offense has now shown more burst in the two previous weeks than they have all season. With Army’s multi-headed run game coming to town, the Owls will need Walker to be able to sustain drives and win the time of possession battle for the Owls to avoid the 0-7 mark.
Some trends to consider -- Army is 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games on grass and Temple is 14-3 against the spread in their last 17 games versus Independent teams.
This game will be a homecoming of sorts for the Black Knights who end their season at the Linc every year. Fortunately for Army, they will be welcomed by a porous rush defense that has struggled to stop all comers this season. I expect this one to be close until the 4th quarter where the thin Temple defense is overwhelmed by Army’s tailbacks as the Black Knights get to .500 on the year with the win and the cover.
